Funeral services for Miss Lena Hvinden, 88, longtime resident of Benson County will be conducted on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the North Viking Lutheran Church with Pastor F. E. Olderr officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Burke-Utgaard Funeral Home at Maddock is in charge of the arrangements. Miss Hvinden died on Saturday evening after having been hospitalized for about two weeks following a fall down a slight of stairs. She was 88 years, 11 months and 9 days. During the service Mrs. Jens Dyrud will be soloist, accompanied by Miss Gilma Hovland, organist. Pallbearers will be Ted Liudahl, Herman Hvinden, Alton Liudahl, Oscar Hvinden, Lyle Peterson and Gordon Arne. Lena, the daughter of Hans and Agnetta Hvinden, was born on 29 Feb 1869 in Gran Hadeland Norway. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith there. At the age of 33, she came with her mother to the United States, coming to the A. A. Liudahl home at Minnewaukan, ND. Later she made her home on the Liudahl farm in the Viking community, caring for her mother. After a few years, they moved to the Christian Hvinden farm where they resided until the death of her mother in 1930. At this time Lena made her home with her sister, Mrs. Ness. After the death of Mrs. Ness, she again resided with her brother before going to the Lutheran Home for the Aged in Minot, ND where she spent several years before entering the Maddock Memorial Home. The past three years she has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Ingvald Ellefson in Maddock where her vacant place and quiet, kind and loving manner will be greatly missed. Lena is survived by a brother, Christian and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers and two sisters.
