“Utah Boy of 9 Dies in Path of Mail Truck --- Tribune Special, Panguitch, Garfield County, Aug. 3 --- A youngster eager to get the mail, Leslie Jessop, 9, was injured fatally Wednesday about 11 a.m. when he ran into the path of the mail truck.

“The accident occurred within sight of his home in Black canyon, east of here.

“Taken to a hospital here for treatment, he died at 3:45 p.m. of multiple fractures of the skull, right leg and other bones, numerous lacerations and bruises.

“Sheriff Deward Woodward said Arthur McInelly, 39, Escalante, Garfield county, was driving the mail truck at the time of the accident. One of Mr. McInelly’s sons tossed a mail bag from the truck to the side of highway 22 opposite the Jessop home.

“In his eagerness to get the mail, young Leslie ran in front of the moving vehicle.

“Leslie Jessop was born in Salt Lake City, Oct. 6, 1939, a son of Joseph L. and Winnefred Porter Jessop. During the past school year he had been a student at Widtsoe, Garfield county, school.

“Surviving are his parents; nine brothers and sisters, Edson Jessop, Short Creek, Ariz.; Mrs. Kathryn Allred, Edith and Loren Jessop, Salt Lake City; Louise, Florence, Jane, Shem and Louis Jessop, his twin brother, all of Antimony.”
