Funeral services for the late Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Pierce, who died at her home at Twelfth and Ward in this city Tuesday afternoon, were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Baptist church, the Rev. D.K. Foster conducting the service. Interment was in the family plot in Little Prairie cemetery.
Mrs. Pierce was born Feb. 22, 1866, in Osceola, Ark., and had been a resident of this city for the past fifty-five years. Her parents died when she was small and she was reared by her grandparents, a Dr. and Mrs. Felts. She taught school and music in Osceola for several years, later teaching music here.
She was united in marriage to Charles R. Pierce on Dec. 16, 1886, who preceded her in death several years ago. She had been a member of the Baptist Church for many years.
Mrs. Pierce is survived by six daughters, Mdmes. D.D. Pinion, D. Ben Holly, J.W. Bowman, Buford Thweatt and Randall Mead, all of this city, and Mrs. W.N. Holly of Cooter; four sons, Chas. T. Pierce, Frank Pierce, Fred Pierce and Bob Pierce, also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pall bearers were six of her grandsons, Frankie Pierce, Billy Pierce, Jerry Holly, Byron Holly, Robert Thweatt and Dick Thweatt.
