From the diary of Doris Daniels Cox: Nathaniel (Nat) Cox was born in Edmunds, ME. He was 8 years old (almost 9) when his father died. He went to live and work on the dairy farm owned by Henry and Nellie Bunker, according to the April 16, 1930 U.S. Census. By that time Nat was 17. The farm was located on Hancock Point Road in Hancock, ME. Sometime after 1930 he moved to Hopedale, MA where his brothers Merrill and Paul lived. He worked as a fireman and boarded at the fire station at first. Later, he was accepted as an apprentice tool and die maker in the Draper Corporation factory. In March 1934 Nat and Doris Daniels met for the first time in Mendon. They started dating soon after they met but did not get engaged until 1939. They were married in June 1940 and Nathaniel spent much of 1940 and early 1941 building a new home in Mendon where they both lived until they died.

Obituary: Worcester Telegram & Gazette (MA) - Thursday, March 9, 1995 – in MENDON - Nathaniel B. Cox, 82, of George St., died yesterday in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital. His wife, Doris M. (Daniels) Cox, died in 1973. He leaves four sons, Norman L. Cox of Mendon, Jesse E. Cox of Dumfries, Va., Daniel W. Cox of Bellingham and Carleton W. Cox of St. Peters, Va.; a brother, Curville Cox of Hopedale; two sisters, Frances Staples of Grafton and Ethel Reynolds of Bangor, Maine; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Edmunds, Maine, son of Jesse and Charlotte (Whitney) Cox and lived in Hopedale, Milford and Maine before moving here in 1941.

He was a tool and die maker at Draper Corp. in Hopedale for more than 40 years, retiring in 1976. Previously, he worked in Maine as a wood cutter and as a fireman in Hopedale. He was a member of the Knights of Phythias in Hopedale.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford. Burial will follow in Swan Dale Cemetery, Mendon. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.
