Lottie Whitney was the 5th of 13 children born to Josiah Noyes Whitney Jr. and Josephine Leighton Whitney. Lottie married Jesse S. Cox on March 21, 1903. They lived on Shore Road in Edmunds. Their house overlooked Cobscook Bay. At the time of the 1920 Census they had moved to Marion hoping that moving further inland Lottie's health would improve. Lottie & Jesse had 9 children.
