Last surviving of the nine children of Jesse and Lottie Cox. His parents died when he was a boy, and he lived with his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Whitney, in Jonesboro, Maine. He graduated from Jonesboro High School and later Husson College in Bangor, Maine.

Mr. Cox joined the Army in 1928 and was commissioned in 1933. He later was in the Air Force, serving 29 years in the military until his retirement at the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1958. He was a veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theatre and also was a veteran of the Korean War.

When he retired from the Air Force, Mr. Cox moved with his family to Hopedale, and became a real estate broker. He later operated his own business, C. Cox Realty in Holliston. Mr. and Mrs. Cox relocated to Mechanicsville in 1998.
