Johnnie Calvin Acord

Johnnie Calvin Acord, of Flossie Road, Bolt, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, in a Beckley hospital following an extended illness. He was 80 years of age.

Born Sept. 11, 1927, in Bolt, he was the son of the late Lacy James and Flossie Mae (Acord) Acord.

Mr. Acord was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He worked in the coal industry for over 42 years and retired from Kopperston mines. He was a member of the UMW of America and he attended Fairdale Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jessie Gunnoe Acord; a son Carl Acord and wife, Joyce, of Bolt; three daughters: Diana Pendergrass and husband, James, of Kittrell, N.C., Sherl Grow and husband, James, of Crab Orchard and Sherry Cline and husband, Darrell, of Grandview; five grandchildren, Kristen Wilson and husband, Joseph, Cody Acord and wife, Lindsay, Casey Acord, Brandon Grow and Jarod Cline; and two brothers, Gail Acord of Fairdale and Jack Acord of Cyclone.

Service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Dean Adams and the Rev. Gary Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Grow, Casey Acord, Cody Acord, Joseph Cline, Sammy Acord and Dallas Acord.
