Anthony (Tom) was the son of Ammon Meshach Tenney, Sr. and Ammon's third (plural) wife, Hettie Millicent Adams.

He married Violet Ann Hunsaker July 21, 1922 in Miami, Arizona.

Anthony and Violet had three children together:

Betty Louise Tenney (1923 - 1926)
Vera Mae Tenney (1925 - 1926)
Helen Carol Tenney (1933 - )

Tom died from a heart attack shortly after watching a horse race on TV. The horse was Swaps, who was trained and partially owned by Tom's brother, Mesh Tenney. Swaps had won the 1955 Kentucky Derby, having beat the favorite horse, Nashua. A few months later, Nashua's owner challenged Mesh Tenney to put Swaps in a match race against Nashua. Coming out of the starting gate, Swaps injured his leg, and lost the race. At that point, Tom said, "I don't think I feel very well," went into his bedroom and died.
