Velna Blanche Ashford was one of 10 children born to William Haemer Ashford and Amanda Jane Sullivan. On August 17, 1919, Blanche married Rosco E. Mayfield in North Bend, Oregon. Rosco was the son of John Dudley Mayfield and Mary Aberdeen Story.

Blanche and Rosco had three daughters:
Darlene Ardath Mayfield born in 1921
Betty June Mayfield born in 1923
Donna Joyce Mayfield born in 1936
