Wenatchee World - Nov 9, 2005

Jess Farmer, 91, of Cashmere, went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2005, following a year-long battle with cancer. He passed away at home, surrounded by his loving, immediate family.

Jess was born in Edna, TX on April 25, 1914, to John R. and Mardie (Tipton) Farmer and in 1923, the family moved to Washington. Jess attended school in Monitor and Wenatchee. He was one of the original 'school patrol' in Wenatchee. On September 1, 1934, he married Rosella Duncan in Cashmere. Jess worked in the local orchards, and during World War II, they moved to Tacoma where he was employed in the shipyards. Following the war, they returned to Cashmere where he worked for Pioneer Growers and then for Schmitten Lumber Company. He retired from Schmitten's in 1976. In 1961, he purchased an orchard in Brender Canyon, which he operated until selling it in 1990. Jess continued to work in the harvest each year for his son-in-law, Ernie Garrett until 1999. Jess enjoyed his friendships with co-workers, and friends and family were very important to him.

He was an excellent role model for his children and grandchildren, in living a life of love. Jess and Rose were married 65 years and truly loved nothing more than traveling, camping trips and great gatherings with their family. He served as a Cub Scott leader, Little League Coach and attended the Columbia Grove Covenant Church in East Wenatchee.

He is survived by his children, Loretta and Ernie Garrett of Camano Island, Janet and Bob Tritle of Cashmere, Gary Farmer and Carol Benson of Black Diamond, Dan and Carolyn Farmer of Wenatchee, Linda Fleming of Lynden and Sherrie and Harold Rash of Chelan; his grandchildren, whom he loved greatly are Mike and Jeanne Tritle of Spokane, Lisa and Ric Lake of Spokane, Jeremy and Debbie Tritle of Belle Vernon, PA, Sue and Jon Stephenson of Camano Island, Bryan Farmer of Cashmere, Heidi and Brian Favor of East Wenatchee, Brad Farmer and Pam Struck of Monitor, Jennifer Vallejo of Woodinville, Scott and Betsy Farmer of Monroe, Chad and Holly Fleming, Kelly Fleming, Randy and Cathy Fleming all of Lynden, Cordelle and Ray LaRoche of Enumclaw and Marcia and Jeff Arnold of Lake Stevens. He also has 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and his sister, Midge Tichacek of Cashmere; and brother and sister-in-law, John and Pauline Farmer of East Wenatchee; and sister-in-law, Betty Farmer of Cashmere. Jess was preceded in death by his wife, Rosella on Oct. 4, 1999; his parents; sister, Carrie Cope; brothers, Jack Farmer and Bade Farmer; grandson, Patrick Garrett and son-in-law, Bud Fleming.

The family wishes to thank Pat Holmer of Cashmere who gave Jess such wonderful personal care for three years, and Central Washington Hospice Service for their kind help and encouragement.

A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Jess Farmer, will be conducted at 1:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon, November 10, 2005, in the Mid Valley Baptist Church, 1 Frontage Road, Dryden, with Pastor Andrew Thompson officiating. Concluding Service and Interment will follow in the Cashmere City Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorials in his name to the Columbia Grove Covenant Church, P.O. Box 221, Wenatchee, WA 98807-0221. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
