Military graveside service for Andrew T. Fabiny, 62, were conducted Feb. 17 at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.

A rosary was recited at the Lady of the Rosary Cathedral.
Mr. Fabiny died Feb. 14 at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana, Calif.

He was born May 30, 1920 in Rock Springs to John and Julia Fabiny. He attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and spent two years in a German prisoner of war camp.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Erma Novak; his mother, his father, one sister and two brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, three sisters, and one brother.

Andrew Thomas Fabiny of San Bernardino, born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, a resident of San Bernardino for 21 years, died February 14, 1983 at the age of 62. He was a Manager for Helms Bakery for 24 years before retiring and a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, the National Association of Ex-POW's, World War II and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. He was survived by his daughter, Julianne A Fabiny of Parker, Colorado, brother, George Fabiny of Rock Springs, Wyoming, three sisters, Ann Painovich, Agnes Abo and Kayo Bucho, all of Wyoming, numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Bobbitt Memorial Chapel with Mass at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday in Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral. Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery.

Notes: After "Operation Tidal Wave" the 44th BG remained in North Africa to support the Sicily invasion. This crew again flying SOUTHERN COMFORT was lost on 16 Aug 1943 on a mission to the airfields at Foggia, Italy. Several of the crewman taken POW escaped.

Lt. Fabiny was a veteran of "Operation Tidal Wave " one of the most daring raids of the war. Coming in at tree top level with Lt. Austin and crew of SOUTHERN COMFORT with the flying Eight Balls, they destroy Romanian oil refineries. The 44th earns Presidential Unit Citation, all of the crews receive the Distinguished Flying Cross for valor.
