ROCKTON - James H. Conklin, 80, of Route 1, died Sunday evening in Beloit hospital.
He was born July 9, 1887, in Rockton, the son of Dorsey T. and Nancy Lydia Swan Conklin. He married Delia LaVerne Johnson March 13, 1915, in Rockton Twp.
He had lived in the Rockton Twp. all his life and had worked as a farmer. He was a fifty year member of the Rockton Masonic lodge, and of the Tebala Temple of Rockford, the Consistory of Freeport, the Rockton Rotary Club, a Director of the Burritt Mutual Insurance Co. for 28 years, serving as trustee for five years, a Deputy for the Winnebago Co. Sheriff's Department for 40 years. He served on the Hononegah Community High School Board for 24 years, worked with the Winnebago Co. Soil Conservation Department for 75 years, and was active for many years in Farm Bureau work.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Leland (Barbara) Hanson, Beloit; a son, Forest A. Conklin, Rockton; three grandchildren; a brother, Dorsey T. Conklin, Palmyra, Wis.; three nephews and several cousins. He was predeceased by his wife in 1932 and a son Willard S. Conklin.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer Central Chapel. Burial will be in Rockton cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 o.m. Tuesday in Central Chapel.
The family suggests that friends who wish to contribute to the Hononegah Community High School.
