ROCKTON - Willard S. Conklin, 46, of Route 1, was found dead in his farm house shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday.
Preliminary investigation of the death showed that it was an apparent suicide, but it will not definately be decided until a coroner's inquest is held. He reportedly was shot in the head with a pistol.
Mr. Conklin was born June 26, 1919, in Beloit, the son of James and Ell Johnson Conklin and married Mary Doty, Feb. 28, 1948 in Rockford.
He was a farmer, a member of the Harrison School Board and the Beloit Moose Club and a special deputy in Winnebago County.
Surviving are his wife; a son Willard E., a daughter Carol, both at home; his father in Rockton; a brother Forest of Rockton; and a sister Mrs. Leland Hanson of Beloit.
