LaVerne S. Bennett
LaVerne S. Bennett, 76, Franklin, who has relatives living in Shelby County, died Tuesday at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis.
Born on March 9, 1922, in Russell Springs, Ky., she was the daughter of Jonah and Riffie M. (Wilson) Stephens.
On Dec. 25, 1938, she married Avil R. Bennett, who died on Feb. 20, 1996.
Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker and was also a cook for Roto Grill, Amity, for 21 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of the Bedford Church of God and a former member and clerk of the former Franklin Church of God on North Main Street.
Survivors include three daughters, Meritta Kennard, Flat Rock, Vilis L. Richardson, Prince's Lake, and Velma F. Speer, Southport; three sons, Arvin L. Bennett, Noblesville, Avert J. Bennett, Bedford, and Ira W. Bennett, Hollandsburg, Ohio; two sisters, Mayvelline Smith, Edinburgh, and Myreace Gadberry, Muncie; three brothers, Roland Stephens, Franklin, Eddison Stephens, West Virginia, and Johnny Stephens, Shelbyville; 21 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, two sisters and a brother.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Jerry Ballard officiating.
Burial will be in Flat Rock Cemetery.
