Velma was born in Franklin on November 7, 1955 to her parents, the late Avil and Laverne (Stephens) Bennett.
She was a 1974 graduate of Franklin High School.
Velma retired in 2021 after 47 years in the grocery business. She worked for Marsh as the Dairy Manger and previous Frozen Food's Manager from 1974 until they closed in 2017. After the closing, Velma went to work for The Kroger Co. in Greenwood as a cashier.
She was a member of the Morgantown Baptist Church. Velma will be remembered for her hard work ethic and her dedication to her family. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Velma enjoyed going out to eat with friends, shopping and cheering on her favorite NFL Team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Velma is survived by her children, Stephen Speer of Gilbert, AZ and Kimberly (Eric) Taylor of Whiteland; grandchildren, Paige, Brooklyn and Carley Taylor all of Whiteland; siblings, Avery "Jay" (Bonnie) Bennett of Bedford and Arvin L. Bennett of Noblesville; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Velma was preceded in death on September 13, 2014 by her loving husband, Bobby Joe Crowe, whom she married on February 14, 2005 in Las Vegas, NV. Velma was also preceded in death by siblings, Ira "Dude" Bennett, Meritta Kennard, Vilis Richardson and Rubyleen Bennett; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Bennett.
