OBITUARY :
JACOB A. MARTIN, 92, of Smithsburg R. 3, Md., died at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown. He had been ill for the last two weeks.

Born near Emmitsburg, Feb. 13, 1883, he was a son of the late James P. and Anna M. (Bollinger) Martin. His early life was lived in the Emmitsburg area.

As a young man, he was employed by the Western Maryland Railroad and later worked as a carpenter.

In 1917, the family moved to the Harbaugh Church area, where he farmed as a tenant until 1950 when he purchased his own farm which he operated until his retirement in 1960.

His wife, Mrs. Ruth A. (Harbaugh) Martin, died in September 1958.

He was a member of the Harbaugh Evangelical Reformed Church. He was also a member of the IOOF of Thurmont.

He is survived by these children: Gilbert N. Martin, Mrs. John W. Fitz, Jr., and Miss Cleo Martin, all of Smithsburg R. 3; Leroy J. Martin, Waynesboro R. 5; Earl G. Martin, Greencastle; Mrs. Charles Mentzer, Waynesboro, and Clyde H. Martin, College Park, Md. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and a great-grandson.

The funeral was held today at 2 p.m. in the Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro in charge of the Rev. John C. Chattel and the Rev. John Huff. Burial was in the Harbaugh Church Cemetery.
