Westerly, RI - Mary Ann (Piccolo) Aiello, 88, formerly of Westerly, passed away after a long illness at Fairview Odd Fellows Home in Groton on May 12, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, Natale Aiello on Oct. 12, 1973.

Born in Westerly, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Bomina (Piezzo) Piccolo. She married Natale Aiello on Dec. 28, 1944, and they settled in Bradford, where they lived until after his death, when she moved back to the Pearl Street house in Westerly, where she was raised.

Mary worked for many years as a waitress at the Haversham Inn, and Mary's Main Street Restaurant in Bradford, where she became known as the "singing waitress". She also was employed at the Westerly Hospital's accounting department and lastly moved on to Mary's Restaurant which was the former Haversham Inn. She was a member of the community of the Immaculate Conception Church, where she was also a lector, a 30 year member of the Chorus of Westerly, a member of the board for the Center for the Arts, a devoted follower of the Legion of Mary, she was a docent at the Babcock Smith House, volunteered at the Westerly Hospital, was active on her school reunion committee and was a mainstay volunteer at the Blue Mitten Thrift Shop. Her greatest loves were her Lord, her family, her music and her friends. All throughout hers and Nat's marriage, their house was a gathering place for people she met and invited to dinner. Their table was always laden with delicious homemade delicacies and was the setting of many happy times and celebrations.

Mary is survived by her children, Paula Reid and husband, Kenneth of Mystic, Eugene Aiello and wife, Janet of Westerly and Lorraine Butler and companion, Todd Taylor of Westerly; grandchildren, Brian Reid and wife, Paula of Stonington, Joel Reid of Stonington, Michael Aiello and wife, Michelle of Carolina, Jennifer Luther and husband, Michael of Westerly, Lauren and Jeffrey Butler of Westerly; her great-grandchildren, Julia Reid, Nicholas Reid, Kenneth Reid, Emily Luther, Amy Luther and Cooper Aiello; her brothers, Joseph Piccolo of Westerly, Thomas Piccolo and wife, Katharine of Pawcatuck, Anthony and wife, Margaret of Westerly; her sisters, Helen Corina of Bradford and Julia Wilcox and husband, Bill of Ashaway; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Michael and three sisters, Carmella "Minnie" Nadeau, Pauline Levcowich and Angelina "Angie" Vita.
