Alfred Martin Saxon

"Alfred Martin Saxon, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Saxon, was born on the 4th of October, 1906, and died on the 11th of August, 1908. For poor little Alfred the dawn had just opened; its rosy light had just touched his brow, and he had just begun to hear the music of birds and streams when the light failed and the night of Death fell upon him, and he was laid to sleep where the wild birds sing and the sunset gilds his tomb. But for him there succeeded another dawn, the dawn of Eternity, whose glories are so beautiful that no human heart can utter, nor human tongue describe them, and there in Paradise with our Saviour, who said, 'Suffer little children to come unto me,' he has gone to abide forever. Our sweet little Alfred is peacefully sleeping, Alone like a rose bud enclosed in the tomb, Where angels of Heaven their vigils are keeping, And flowers celestial unfold into bloom. With features angelic he's sleeping and smiling, As often he smiled in his innocent glee, When with his caresses my hours beguiling, I sang him to sleep with a soft lullaby. I know he is blest and his spirit is shining, Resplendent and bright in his home in the skies, But still I must weep when the day is declining And I think of the green little mound where he lies. I feel it is hard, but our Savior in heaven Foresees and foreknows what is best for us all; In Him we must trust, from life's dawn to its even, No matter whatever betide or fall." [Death Notice]
