Mr. Cockerham was a prominent resident of this parish, having served as a member of the Winn Parish School Board and the police jury during his lifetime. He took an active interest in the affairs of the parish and was a deacon in the Union Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Up until the time of his illness he had been employed by the Louisiana Conservation Department.
Mr. Cockerham was born April 15, 1867 in the Ward Two community in which he lived his entire life.
Surviving are his widow, six sons and four daughters: David, Jack, J. A., M. M., and Herbert Cockerham, all of Winnfield, and Arnold Cockerham of Shreveport; Mrs. Dee Franklin, Houma; Mrs. Howard Drewett, Mrs. Earnest Hearne, and Mrs. Bill Clegorne of Winnfield; one half brother, Allen Cockerham of Route Four, Winnfield; and three half sisters, Mrs. C. C. Creel, Joyce; Mrs. Tom Rice, Route 1, Winnfield, and Mrs. Clarence Jordan, Route 4, Winnfield.
