JONESBORO, Aug. 23 (special) — Jelina Virginia Cockerham, 86, died Wednesday at a nursing home in Alexandria.

She was born and reared in Winn Parish.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Old Union Baptist Church near Winnfield. Interment will be in the Old Union Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Survivors include four sons, Rev. J. A. Cockerham of Winnfield, A. W. Cockerham of Shreveport, David E. Cockerham of Jonesville, and Milburn M. Cockerham of Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Franklin of Winnfield, Mrs. Mary Lou Drewitt of Winnfield and Mrs. Mary Bell Bourdin [sic Mille Belle Bourdier] of Morgan City; 28 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Her husband, Henry M. Cockerham, better known as "Uncle Bud," died in 1937.

She was shown as three months old in the 1870 census for Winn Parish, LA, enumerated on September 5, 1870. The 1900 census for Winn Parish gives her birth month/year as June 1871. Thus, her grave marker evidently has the wrong birth year and certainly has the wrong death month. She married Henry Maxwell Cockerham on December 27, 1889 in Winn Parish, LA.
