Wendell Glen Helland, age 80 of Lake Preston died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at his home in Lake Preston. Wendell G. Helland was born February 16, 1928 to Knute and Lena (Olson) Helland. He was baptized and confirmed at the North Preston Lutheran Church. On January 15, 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged, November 24, 1954 as a Second Class Metal smith. Wendell was united in marriage to Joann Becker on June 5, 1955 at the Oldham Lutheran Church in Oldham, SD. He ran the Standard Station in Lake Preston, worked as an electrician and postal clerk in the U.S. Post Office. On March 26, 1973 Wendell became Posts Master of the Lake Preston Post Office. He retired on May 30, 1986. He especially enjoyed being with his family and friends, fishing and camping. He survived by his wife; Joann of Lake Preston; one son David (Debra) of Bowman, ND; two daughters, Debra (Randy) Warner of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Lori (William) Logan of Deadwood, SD; seven grandchildren a sister, Ardell (Monroe) Jensen of Sioux Falls, SD. He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
