Mrs. Lena Helland's 87th birthday was celebrated on Sunday Jan 23, 1983 at the home of her son and wife, Wendell and JoAnne Helland.

"Funeral services were held this past Tuesday for Lena Helland, 88, in the North Preston Lutheran Church at 10:30 A.M. with the Rev. Thomas Hagen, officiating. Organist for the service was Karen Nelson and a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Mayo Neilson. Lena was born January 23, 1896 to Arne and Louise Olson in the North Preston vicinity. She was baptized, confirmed, and a life long member of the North Preston Lutheran Church. She married Knute Helland on October 11, 1924 and they farmed in the North Preston area until they moved into Lake Preston in 1955. Mrs. Helland is survived by a son, Wendell, Lake Preston and a daughter, Mrs. Monroe (Ardell) Jensen, Sioux Falls; four sisters, Martha Hedberg, Lake Preston; Ella Jensen, Sioux Falls; Mrs. Marvin (Alvina) Jensen, New Ulm, MN and Nellie Larson, Sioux Falls, three brothers, Albert, Martin, and John all of Lake Preston. Six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974. Pallbearers were Albert Anderson, Lonnie Jensen, Ardean Helland, Arden Jensen, Eugene Larson, and Clarence Hedberg. Burial was in the North Preston Church cemetery with the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements."
