He worked as a farm laborer, then moved to the Minneapolis area before joining the Army, where he served for 3 years before he got married July 3, 1940 to Helen Purinen. They moved to Denver and during WWII Floyd worked in a war plant in Denver. Floyd and Helen had 2 daughters, Sally and Sharon.
He worked as an industry machinist for Swift and Co and Gates Rubber Co. He and Helen also sold garden produce.
After he retired they spent every winter hunting rocks in the desert, which Floyd enjoyed polishing and making into clocks. They traveled extensively in their motor home, visiting family across the country.
