OLD TOWN -- Ethelyn (nee LaGasse) Montgomery, died Nov. 3, 1998, at Orono, after a three year struggle with cancer. For the past 10 years, she was a resident of Old Town. Bobbi was born July 15, 1916, in Millinocket, to Maxim and Clarice (Lizotte) LaGasse.
After the premature death of her mother, Bobbi attended schools at Malden, Mass. and New York City, N.Y., residing with elder sisters. She returned to Millinocket and was graduated from Stearns High School, in the class of 1933. She attended nursing school at Connecticut State Hospital at Hartford, St. Joseph's College for Women at West Hartford, and business college in Boston, Mass. For many years she lived and worked as a secretary on Long Island, N.Y. and in New York City, N.Y. In the late 1960s, Bobbi returned to Maine, which she loved, living in East Millinocket and Bangor. Bobbi loved the era of the Big Bands, wishing for a reprise of the style and manners of the time. She reflected that era with her own sense of elegance and style. She was an avid bridge player and a member of several area organizations including the Widowed Persons Service and the Evergreens.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Montgomery of East Millinocket. She is survived by her daughter, Alixandra Williams of San Diego, Calif. and Bangor; her grandson, Christopher Paul Foran of Waterville; two sisters, Clarissa Cyr DeNuccio and Nadia Tracey Althizer of Old Town; special nieces are Patricai Thibodeau Adams of East Millinocket, Lee Moscone Casey of Malden, Mass., Madeline Simon Juran of Bayside, N.Y., as well as other relatives. Special friends include Sheila Merrill, Wende Chalila, Julia Bendure, Carmen Couturier and Vera Waterman, all of the Bangor area, Dan Manzo of Washington, D.C. and other friends and neighbors who she loved. She was predeceased by special friend and classmate, Ruth Fling Hamilton and special friend, Marguerite MacDonald; also four beloved sisters, Yvonne Thibodeau of East Millinocket, Leona Moscone of East Boston, Mass., Lillian Simon McMahon of Queens Village, N.Y. and Maxine Logan Pinartos of Pittsfield, Mass.
There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of choice. A memorial Mass will be said by the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Holy Family Parish, Old Town. Friends and neighbors are welcome to attend. After the Mass a memorial reception will take place in the common room of the Penobscot Terrace, 145 S. Main St., Old Town.
