Walter Robert Schaad of Newberg died June 27, 2008. He was 93. He was born May 21, 1915, in Newberg to William and Lucy (Werth) Schaad. He was raised on the family homestead east of town. He was an avid farmer and raised Chester White pigs for most of his career. He was also active in the Garden Club. He married, a schoolteacher at Mabel Rush Elementary, in 1963. He was a member of Newberg Christian Church. He enjoyed collecting agates and carpentry. Survivors include: brothers Larry, Carl and Stanley, all of Newberg. He was preceded in death by wife Nina in November 2007, three brothers and four sisters. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today (July 7) at Newberg Christian Church. A private committal will follow.
