Spencer W. Bortner, 79, Glen Rock, Dies
Glen Rock – Spencer W. Bortner, 79, husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Bortner, 137 Hanover Street, died at 7:45 last night at York Hospital, where he had been a patient since Monday. Death was due to a heart condition.
Mr. Bortner, who had been employed by several local firms at different times since his retirement from farming in 1950, was a member of the Sunday school and the Lutheran congregation of St. Jacob's (Stone) Union Church, near Glenville. He also belonged to Glen Rock Hose and Ladder Company.
Mr. Bortner had resided at this place for the past 14 years, having previously lived in the Brodbeck area. Surviving, besides his wife, are two children, Mrs. Morrell A. Newcomer, 144 Hanover Street, and Mrs. Roy Williams Jr., Harrisburg; four grandchildren, and two foster children, Curvin Schuman, Brodbeck RD 1, and Mrs. John F. Miller, Upperco, Md.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Geiple Funeral Home. Officiating will be Mr. Bortner's pastor, Rev. Dr. Kenneth S. Ehrhart, assisted by Rev. Kenneth D. James, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will be in St. Jacob's (Stone) Church Cemetery.
