Samuel Roscoe Butler, age 79, of Route 2, Shoals, died at 5:20 a.m. Monday October 3, 1994, at his residence following an illness of one year.
He was born March 1, 1915, in Martin County, to the late Alfred and Anna Jane ( Gammon) Butler. He married Minnie Viola Probasco in 1937, and she survives. He had retired from trucking and farming and was a member of the Shoals American Legion Post No. 61 and the Shoals V.F.W. Post No 8589. He wa a member of the Fairview United Brethren Church.
Also surviving are four daughters, Ruth Holman, of Shoals, Betty Salmon and Pauline Fern Taylor, both of Loogootee, and Jane Crowe of French Lick; three sons, Leroy Eugene Butler and Roscoe Levern Butler, both of Shoals, and Samuel Lester Butler, of French Lick; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-two great- grandchildren' one sister, Margaret Probasco, of Route 2, Shoals; one brother Albert Butler of Route 2 Shoals.
A daughter, Elsie Mae Butler; 4 sisters, Christina Spurgeon, Flossie Franklin, Emma Murray, and Dora Gray; four brothers, Cleda Butler, Clarence Butler, Russell Butler and Wilford Butler, have preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, at the Queen-Lee Funeral home, in Shoals, with Bro. Wayne Pendley officiating.
Burial will be made in the Butler Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9p.m. Tues, October 4, and from 8 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
