Vernon Dabel, 85, passed away Aug 23, 2005 in Rexburg at the home of his daughter. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug 27, 2005 at the Afton Third Ward LDS Church. Burial took place in the Afton Cemetery.
Vernon was born June 16, 1919 to August and Sara Isabel Snyder Dabel in Afton. He grew up and spent most of his life in Star Valley.
Vernon served in the Army from October 1941 through December 1945. He was stationed in Sacramento, where he met and married his first wife, Mary Hane Morrison (McKee). To this union three children were born. He lost his third child just 15 hours after birth. His wife died six weeks later from cancer.
After returning to Star Valley Vernon met and married Lydia Hokanson Merritt and formed a family with his two children and her three. Later tow more children were born, making it seven.
Vernon loved to hunt, fish and go camping up Greys River. Most of all he loved his children and grandchildren.
Vernon is survived by his wire Lydia; six children; four brothers, three sisters; 28 grandchildren 75 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 13 brothers and sisters; his son; his first wife and one grandchild.
