John Balthasar Wimmer grew up on a farm. One he married Anna Gertrude Rothove, he moved to Herbert Bureshmeyer's farm near Westphalia Missouri, and worked as a hired hand. It was on this farm that Herbert Fredrick, Charles Herman, and Viola Marie were born.
Work was tight and he found out that there might be work in Nebraska via Aunt Ledi and Uncle Herman.
It was in Nebraska that Alma was born
They then moved back to Osage City Missouri. John worked on the construction of the railroad bridge over the Osage River. Here the two eldest sons Herbert Fredrick finished the 8th grade there. Charles Herman finished the 8th grade in Taos Missouri.
They then moved to Saint Louis and stayed with Aunt Christine and Uncle Henry Schneider. John Balthasar worked for Swift Meat Packing, then as a Blaksmith Machinist. for Dixie Machinery Company. He then caught double bronchial pnemonia and was bed ridden for 6 or 7 months.
His brother Mike was killed in World War 1, and Mike left an insurance policy to Fredrich and Adelheide. When Fredrich passed, the insurance money (inheritance) was split up among John Balthasar and his brothers and Sisters.
About the same time, Anna Gertrude's Uncle John Henry Rothove passed and left her an inheritance through the sale of a nursery that the John owned.
John Balthasar and Anna Gertrude took this inheritance and purchased farm implements, a cow, horse, plow and other items and also purchced a farm near Holts Summit Missouri. They lived there from 1933 to 1939. It was between 1933 and 1937 that Herbert Fredrick and Charles Herman workd with the Civilian Conversation Corps. (CCC). Herbert worked in Missouri, while Charles worked in California. They each made about $20.00 a month and they sent the money home. Charles Herman reported that one month, Anna Gertrude took the money and bought her first washing machine.
In about 1937 Herbert and Charles worked on this farm, cut trees and stripped the bark. They piled the lumber, dried it and sold it in 1939. It was with this money that the Reedsville farm was purchased. This farm was 160 acres with 2 ponds.
