Born Oct. 29, 1893, at Bucowina, Austria, he came to this country in 1900, and to the Ransom-Arnold community in 1919. A farmer, he married Theresia Weber June 4, 1919. She died May 8, 1976. He was a member of St. Aloysius Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of World War I.
He is survived by four sons, Joseph I, Jr., of Arnold, Albert I. of Arnold, Francis H. of Ransom, and Paul A. of Ellis; four daughters, Mary Prather of Hoisington, Martha Peschka of Salina, Sister Doris Marie Flax of Ransom, and Catherine Flax of Chicago; two brothers, Rudy of WaKeeney and William of Ness City; two sisters, Katherine Kisslinger of Ransom and Regina Augustine of Salina; 43 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren.
The funeral mass was Tuesday afternoon at St. Aloysius Church with Msgr. Stewart the celebrant. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Grisell Memorial Long Term Care Center.Ness Co. News, Jan. 24, 1985
