Former Vernal Musician Dies in Salt Lake City
Evan Timothy, who died Wednesday of last week in a Salt Lake hospital was born in Vernal, August 22, 1900 to Heber and Esther Vernon Timothy. In 1911 the family moved to Roosevelt and Evan studied music under Mrs. Burgess.
After the first World War, in which he became disabled, he moved to Salt Lake and continued his musical studies under John T. McClellan. He was a teacher for 32 years and had many thousands of pupils. He taught piano and harmony at the McCune School of Music and in later years, the accordian. He devoted much of his time to church activities and gave many church recitals and entertainments.
He married Agnes Nott about October 3, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had five children, three of whom survive. They were later divorced. He married Tiney Ware Preece in 1947 in Elko, Nevada. (no children with second wife)
Survivors are a son, Bruce A., Salt Lake City; two daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Smith, Salt Lake and Joan Timothy, Arlington, Virginia, by his first marriage and his widow, Mrs. Tiney Preece; also the following brothers and sisters, H. V., Parley, Presley and Lynn Timothy of Roosevelt; L. A. Timothy of Vernal; Mrs. Telintha Rasmussen of Roosevelt and Mrs. Esther Powell of Salt Lake.
The funeral was held Saturday, September 25th. L. A. Timothy attended from Vernal.
