End Comes to Henry Sowers

Henry Sowers, 87, retired Cherokee area farmer, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday at the Girard hospital. He had been in ill health for several years and was seriously ill two days.

Mr. Sowers was born Sept. 21, 1876 in Ipava, Ill., and moved to the Cherokee area in 1900. He farmed northwest of Cherokee for many years. Upon his retirement several years ago he moved into Cherokee.

Mr. Sowers was married to Miss Florence Holley in Adair, Ill., in 1900 but she died in 1950.
Mr. Sowers held membership in the Presbyterian church.
Surviving are two sons, Floyd Sowers and Lloyd Sowers, both of Cherokee; a daughter, Mrs. Cecile Walker, Erie; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Harman and Mrs. Goldie Smith, both of Sumner, Ill., and Mrs. Lela Gallager of Vermont, Ill.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Cherokee Presbyterian church, with Rev. Eldred C. Kuizenga in charge. Rev. Dale Eflin singing "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Mrs. Nettie Dauron, organist. Pallbearers were Don Cheney, Glade Peel, Harold Burns, John Ascanio, Orville Howey and Glen Peak. The Brenner funeral home in Pittsburg was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Cherokee cemetery.
