Collision Kills Cherokee Man

Weir -- A 61-year old Cherokee man was fatally injured and a 20-year old Scammon man was hospitalized following a 2-car accident Monday a mile north of Weir at a Cherokee county road intersection, according to the highway patrol.

Trooper Charles Keinast said Floyd Sowers of Cherokee was driver of one car and Larry R. Parker, Scammon, R.R.1, was driving a panel truck.
The trooper said the two cars collided at an intersection when Sowers, who was going east, drove into the path of Parker, who was going south.

Crawford County Coroner, Dr. W.G. Rinehart said Sowers had a crushed chest, Keinast reported.
The accident occurred about 3 p.m. and Sowers died about two and a half hours later.

Mr. Sowers was born June 15, 1904, on a farm northwest of Cherokee. He attended Crawford County high school in Cherokee, and in the early 1920's he moved to Detroit. He became employed at the Chrysler Motor Corp., and worked there until retiring three years ago when he returned to Cherokee.

Surviving are the widow; a twin brother, Lloyd Sowers, of Cherokee, and a sister, Mrs. Cecile Walker of Erie.

The body is at the Brenner mortuary in Pittsburg. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
