The Tarrytown native had lived in Jacksonville for the past 50 years. He was retired from Alton Box Board/Jefferson Smurfit with 36 years of service, was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Air Force 39 months. He was a recipient of a Good Conduct Medal and EAMET Service Medal and was a member of North Jacksonville Moose Lodge #2134. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Mae (Flood) Memory and a son, Terry M. Memory.
Survivors include one daughter, Maureen Memory Hayes, Jacksonville; one son, John H. Memory, Jacksonville; one sister, Agnes Calhoun, Vidalia; two grandchildren, Michael Hayes, Sacramento, California, and Maurice Hayes, Jacksonville; four great-grandchildren; three nephews, Roy Calhoun, Louie Calhoun, and J.H. Memory, Jr., all of Vidalia; and one niece, Kay Claxton, Vidalia.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with the Reverend George Moody officiating. Interment followed in Williamson Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keith Hamilton, Gilbert Calhoun, Arnie Calhoun, Marty Morris, Ricky Allmond and Kem Frost.
