THE CONSTITUTION: ATLANTA, GA. SATURDAY, MARCH 26, 1911 – page 8A
Captain John C. Joiner of 114 Richardson street, was well known in Masonic circles through the south. Captain Joiner became a Mason soon after the close of the civil war. Born in Americus in 1840, Captain Joiner was initiated into the Americus lodge No. 14 F & A M, in 1867. He chose to travel the York Rite and joined Wells Joiner's chapter, No. 42 R A M in 1879. Atlanta became the home of Captain Joiner in 1877 and he has lived here continuously ever since. Captain John Joiner commenced as a bottom supernumerary in the police department over twenty years ago, and is the only man who ever served in every capacity from that position to captain.
He was a gallant Confederate and fought bravely under General Tige Anderson. During his connection with the police department his record has been a spotless one and his reputation as an officer is the very best. His long service with the police department makes him eminently qualified for the new business which he has undertaken.

From John Carroll:
I found this post and thought you would like this information. I'm doing research on members of the Sumter Light Guard which became Co K, 4th GA Vol Infantry. There was a John C Joiner enlisted in this unit (Henderson's Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia). His record indicates he joined as Pvt. April 27, 1861, then transferred to Captain N.W. Small's Company, Milligan's Independent Signal Corps, on April 1, 1862; then to 2nd Company Independent Signal Corps, CSA, March 1, 1863. Appointed Sergeant. He was captured at Mount Please July 25, 1864. Sent to Point Lookout Maryland prison camp; paroled from there for exchange Sept 1864. Received at Varina, Va. Sept 22, 1864. No later record.
John C Joiner's three brothers were in Co K, 41st GA Infantry from Campbell County, but he apparently was not in that unit.
