Celia Ann Elizabeth Causey Joiner was born to Israel Causey and Susannah Cowart. She was born in Jefferson County, Ga. where Israel and Susannah married. It is believed that she married Wells Joiner in Sumter Co. Ga., because the four oldest boys were all born there (per the Joiner family Bible which pages were shown to me, and were copied and given to me by a Kerley descendant). It is believed that they moved to Campbell Co. Ga. in 1848, because in 1849 Walter Crawford was born there, and according to the Joiner Bible, he was the first child to be born in Campbell Co. The old Israel Causey home that was built in 1835 is in Cobb County, just north of the Douglas County line on Maxham Road. Celia was my Great Great Grandmother.

Celia and Wells' eleven children: William Jackson, Green Rufus, John Causey, Thomas Eli Jefferson, Robert Lawson, Joel Wells, Walter Crawford, James Cowart, Joseph Parks, Celia Ann Elizabeth, and Sarah. I have found all of the children's graves except Joel Wells b 1846. If anyone knows where he is buried, please contact me!

From John Cowart's will which was probated in 1821 (John was the father of Celia's mother, Susannah):

"Eighthly, I will and bequeath, to my granddaughter, Tiley Ann Cossey, all the tract of land lying between Amos Folks and John W. Cowart land beginning at or on Ogeechee and running on a line of marked trees till it intersects Mr. J. Forsythe land making in hole the compeat. Negro Girl by the name Fillis, also one mare worth one hundred dollars."

THE CONSTITUTION: ATLANTA, GA. SATURDAY, JANUARY 21, 1905

Celia Ann Elizabeth Joiner, the mother of Captain John C. Joiner, of the police force, died of old age at Lithia Springs, Ga. early yesterday morning. Mrs. Joiner had been an invalid for some time. She was a lovable woman and her many friends and the friends of the bereaved family sincerely mourn her death.

When I first moved to Georgia, in 1980, I put an ad in the Atlanta Journal asking for anyone with any knowledge of the Wells Joiner family to contact me. In a week or two, I heard from the Kerley family. They invited me into their home one hot summer day, gave me some fresh squeezed lemonade, and told me all about my family, and gave me photocopies of the Joiner family Bible. I am forever grateful for their kindness! Rhonda Brady Rampy
