Lea Marie Cross died Saturday, Aug. 10, 1940 at the Douglas hospital. She had been ill a little less than a week, and submitted to an operation on Thursday. Lea Marie LeVasseur was born April 13, 1862 in Cacouna, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Judge Benjamin and Adele Voisson LeVasseur. She was united in marriage to George Harry Cross of Montreal on Jan. 30, 1884 in the beautiful little town of her birth on the St. Lawrence River. Immediately after the ceremony they left for Wyoming territory where they established their ranch on the Upper LaPrele in Converse County. To this union eleven children were born. Margaret and Julia died of diphtheria when still young while on a visit to Canada. A son, Robert, died during the World War. Surviving are Mrs. Edwin Ball of Oakland, Mrs. Geoffrey Morton of San Francisco, Mrs. Joseph Williams, Mrs. Elsie Hawley, Miss Alzire Cross, Alexander Cross, Senator William H. Cross and George H. Cross, Jr., all of Douglas. Eight grandchildren also survive, the eldest being Robert Cross Hawley, who his grandmother regarded more as one of her own sons. Two brothers and a sister also survive, Jules LeVasseur of Douglas; George LeVasseur and Mrs. Adel Cote, both of Canada.
