Alzire Evelyn Cross, 95, died Saturday, June 27 at her sister's, Emma Cross Morton, home in Oakland, California. She was a native of Converse County, born at the Braehead Ranch on June 7, 1892 to George H. and Lea Marie (LeVasseur) Cross. She was educated in local schools and the Holy Child Academy in Cheyenne and the University of Wyoming where she played her violin in the University orchestra and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She served as chairman of Converse County Rural Overseas Program (C.R.O.P.) that sent food to starving people in Europe after World War II. The U.S. Air Force recognized her as an Honorary Life Member of the "Air Defense Team" for voluntary and faithful service in the ground Observer Corps. She taught in local schools and was active in many county and state organizations. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Edwin J. (Masie) Ball and Mrs. Geoffrey B. (Emma Criss Cross) Morton, both of Oakland, Calif.; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Alexander S. (Mina) Cross, Mrs. William H. (Barbara) Cross, and Mrs. George H. (Mary) Cross, Jr., all of Douglas. In addition she is survived by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great and great-great nieces and nephews who live in many states, Canada, Scotland and France.
