He was the son of George Washington and Lucinda 'Lucy' Stout Jenkins Sr.
He was the grandson of Joseph and Hannah ? Jenkins.

His obituary is in the wrong name, and the grandson named for him was also named Bob because that is what he always went by. The name on his tombstone reads G. W. Jenkins.

ROBERT JENKINS DEAD
Death visited the home of one of Galena's best citizens on last Tuesday morning at six o'clock when Robert Jenkins og (sic) Spring Grove died suddenly of heart failure. The day before his death he apparently seemed to be enjoying the best of health and was seen coming town (sic) with a watermelon. The melon was cut soon after he reached home. and after the first bite had been taken by Mr. Jenkins he began strangling, which caused him considerable trouble in getting his breath. He spent the remainder of the night very restless, and at six o'clock Tuesday morning the end came suddenly.
For many years Mr. Jenkins has been a teamster in Galena, and is widely known by all. He is survived by a wife and several children. He is 84 (sic) [48] years of age.
He was insured in the Modern Woodman lodge, by which order the body was taken charge of. The funeral services were held at the family residence in Spring Grove yesterday afternoon.

FROM HEART FAILURE
Robert Jenkins, aged about 48 years, one of the best known citizens of Galena, died at his home in Spring Grove this morning at 6 o'clock of heart trouble.
Yesterday he seemed to be enjoying his usual good health and was in a happy frame of mind when he went home last evening carrying a watermelon. The melon was instantly cut but the first bite taken by Mr. Jenkins caused a strangle and he immediately experienced trouble in getting breath. The remainder of the night he was restless and required constant attention. The end came at the hour noted.
For many years Mr. Jenkins was engaged in teaming and had an extensive acquaintance in Galena. He leaves a wife and several children.
He was insured in the Modern Woodmen of America lodge and this order probably will take part in the funeral.
At the hour of writing arrangements for the funeral had not been made.

Robert Jenkins, 48 years old, a teamster died yesterday morning at his home in Spring Grove after a short illness from heart trouble.
While down town Monday he purchased a watermelon, which he took home. In attempting to eat of it he strangled and immediately became worse.
He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, which order will have charge of the funeral. While the plans have not as yet been completed, it is thought that the funeral will be held Thursday afternoon.

The stone is still standing because my dad, Joe Jenkins cemented it back together at least twice that I remember when I was a kid and we maintained our own grave sites. My sister, Peggy says she and dad also put it together.
It is facing east. In the walk way outside the cement border great-grandfather's military marker is facing it looking west. The squared off corner east of him holds more marked and now unmarked burials.
The stone was furnished by the Modern Woodmen of America. This was an insurance company of sorts.
There should have been a death certificate but Galena did not comply with the mandated starting date. Their records did not start until a few days later.

G. W. Jenkins commonly known as Bob, has been appointed by Mayor O. W. Sparks to act as stock marshal in the city of Galena and has accepted the place, his duties to begin tomorrow morning.
From this time on all stock found running at large within the city limits will be placed in the pound and the owners will have to pay to get them out.
Bob Jenkins is well known in Galena and it is believed he will make a good stock marshal.

The duties of the genial "Bob" have been growing heavily upon his shoulders and this morning he received an aide-de-camp in the way of a bouncing baby boy. Both mother and babe are doing well.
