De Leon - J. D. Smith, 71, of De Leon, died Thursday at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Palava Cemetery in Sweetwater, directed by Nowlin Funeral Home.

Born June 9, 1912 in Sweetwater, he was a retired farmer and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a son, Michael Smith of Huachua, Ariz.; a daughter, Linda Stanley of Crowley; three brothers, L. D. Smith and Cleave Smith, both of Sweetwater and L. E. Smith of Houston; four sisters, Reta Smith and Ruby Bonner, both of Fort Worth, Ila Kennedy of Hastings, Neb. and Emma Durham of Brownfield; and three grandchildren.
