The funeral for Hugo Wurgler, 80, of rugby was held Tues. at 3 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren, rural York. Interment was in the church cemetery. He died July 5, 1996 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Rev. Wayne Vleck officiated. Edie Wurgler was organist & Jeanette Ritterman & Edie Wurgler sang duets. Karyn Nathan was accompanist. Pallbearers were grandsons Brad, Chad, Jeff, Jeremy, Josh & Joel Wurgler & Scot Long. All his relatives & friends were honorary pallbearers. The Anderson Funeral Home of Rugby was in charge of arrangements.

Hugo Wurgler was born Aug. 21, 1915 at River Falls, Wisc. to Alfred & Marie Mueller Wurgler. The family moved to Twin Lake Township of Benson County to farm when he was 3 years old. He attended country school there & graduated from York High School. He then began farming on the family farm. On Sept 6, 1938 he married Blanche Loken at Cando. They bought their own farm near Baker in 1941, They had made their home in Rugby since 1966.

He was well known in the area for his woodworking abilities. He had made 3000 Coke bottle centennial carriers, many replicas of the Geographical Center of North America Monument & many other items for family & friends. He was a lifelong member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren at York. He had served on church boards, held various positions & was a deacon. For more than 25 years he served as clerk & treasurer of Twin Lake Township. He was active in Camp Mon-Dak in the Turtle Mountains near the Peace Gardens. He logged more than 500 hours volunteering in crafts & woodwork for the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche, of Rugby; a daughter, Connie Long of Bottineau; 4 sons, Bob Wurgler of Rugby, Larry Wurgler of Fargo & Jim & Rod Wurgler of York; 15 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Otto & John wurgler of Rugby & Alfred Wurgler of Knox; & 5 sisters, Hannah Wright of Blackfoot, Idaho, Ida Hoime of Edmore, Elsie Eide of York, Marie Berg of Phoenix, Ariz. & Rosie Roed of Minot.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Willie, Eddie, Werner & Charles Wurgler; & a sister, Wilma Loken.
