Guss was born May 8, 1915 in Blanding, Utah to Morley Larsen and Lydia Porter Black. While attending BYU he met his sweetheart and eternal companion. They were married on August 29, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. Guss immediately began his teaching and coaching career which lasted for 43 years and influenced many lives. He was an active member in the LDS Church and served a mission with his wife at the Provo Temple. He also served a mission at the Bishop's Storehouse in Spanish Fork. Guss has been given many honors and awards for his athletic achievements, coaching, horse racing, and citizenship. Guss's family was recognized as Salem Family of the Year in 1985, and Utah Family of the Year in 1986. He had the unique ability of quickly making any stranger his friend, and children adored him.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Salem 9th Ward Chapel, 60 North Main Street. A Viewing will be held Thursday, June 12, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at the Chapel and also prior to the Services from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Chapel.
