KOUTS -- Dean Birky, 85, of 749 S. Baum's Bridge Road, 62-year Kouts resident and a retired farmer, died Thursday at Porter Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Nebraska Jan. 24, 1894, he married Hazel Fleener Dec. 5, 1917 in Manson, Iowa.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Orville Birky of Valparaiso; three sons, Vernon of Valparaiso, Elden of Kouts and Lloyd of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Emma Good and Mary Good of Kouts; five brothers, Jake of Valparaiso, Emery of Hebron, Jonas, Samuel and Emanuel of Kouts; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hopewell Mennonite Church with the Revs. John Murray and Samuel Miller officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Kosanke Funeral Home.
