Henry Davenport was born to Henry Davenport, Sr. and Janie Elder Davenport. He joined Oconee Baptist Church, and in 1930 married Etta Sims. They raised 15 wonderful children. He is predeceased by their son, Edgar Hugh Davenport. Survivors include his beloved wife, Etta Sims Davenport; sons, Mr. & Mrs. James Davenport, Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Davenport, Gunnery Sgt. & Mrs. Samuel D. Davenport, Mr. & Mrs. Virgus Davenport, Mr & Mrs. Curtis Davenport, Mr. & Mrs. Spencer Davenport, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Davenport; seven daughters, Mrs. Clara Allen (Webster), Mrs. Lillie Watson, Mrs. Henrietta Little (Lorenza), Ms. Lucy A. Davenport, Mrs. Alma Roberts (John), Ms. Sarah Alexander, Mrs. Brenda Floyd (Arthur); sisters, Florence Anderson, Athens, GA and Mattie Thomas, Americus, GA; 49 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, a large extended family and many long time friends.

Funeral services were conducted at Oconee Baptist Church in Stephens, GA on July 9, 1983. Rev. C.C. Reeves officiated. Jackson McWhorter Funeral Home, Athens, GA.

In 1920, his family lived in Scull Shoals, Oconee Co., GA. The children's ages were: Lottie (18), Laurice (16), Major (13), Ida (11), Henry Jr. (9), Johnny (7), Florence (5) and Joseph (1).
