Henry Davenport, Sr., was murdered while farming, by the white man whose land he had farmed for several years.

He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Janie Elder Davenport, and the son of Mancil and Mandy Crawford Davenport. He and grandma Janie were married on May 5, 1907. To their union was born Henry "Buddy" Davenport, Jr., Johnny Davenport, Florence Davenport, Joseph and James Davenport. He adopted Ida Elder, Lizzie Elder, Lottie Elder, Lillie Elder, Lucine Elder and Major Elder when he married his wife Janie. In 1910, they resided in Wildcat, Oconee County, GA.

After the death of Grandma Janie, he married Rebecca Redding and took on the responsibilities of fathering her children Marion (15) Glennis (14), Marie (10) and Ben, Jr. (8) from her previous marriage. He cared for them all as best he could; even helping to raise siblings.

(Note: in the 1930 GA Census, their name was misspelled as DEVENPORT).
