Clara was born January 18, 1899 to George William Dixon and Bertha Emma Seiverling.

Others in the family were Mary, born October 4, 1894, Frank born March 18, 1895, Estelle (Stella) born June 2, 1896, Oliver B. (Ollie), born April 12, 1901, Arthur.(Arty) born March 9, 1903, William born 1904 (died age 5), Robert born 1906 (died age 3).

On October 27, 1917 she married Henry Daniel Ellington. They were married 27 years and had a family of 15 children, 9 boys, 6 girls. Harry Frank Joseph, Olive Marie, Lorna Theresa, Stanley George (Jiggs), Kenneth William (Kenny), Richard Oliver (Dicky), Betty Jean, Arthur Raymond (Arty), William Clifford, Shirley Virginia, Clara Louise, Laverne Ella (Chubby), Vernon John, Robert Augustus (Duke) and George Edward. They had 37 grandchildren.

Soon after the wedding they moved in together and made their home at 4912 Bulwer. He got a job working as a painter at P. D. George, a paint company, and Clara got a job as a wrapper in a tin manufacturing company.

They later made their home at 5118 McKissock where they raised the children.

She collected statues of dogs, liked to play Bingo. Had her own dogs and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal bseball fan.

Her husband Henry died November 19, 1944. He was hit by a train in front of their house. He is buried at Friedens Cemetery. Clara was left with ten children to raise alone.

Clara died November 3, 1985 and is buried next to him and with her two babies Stanley and Vernon.
