Alfred Ernest Zimmerman, 88, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. Born September 6, 1934, at Protection, KS, he was the son of Elmer and Erma (Troyer) Zimmerman.

Alfred was a lifetime resident of the Protection, KS area. He attended Murray Country School and graduated from Protection High School in 1953. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959.

On November 24, 1976, he married Nancy Ann (Metzger) Morton at Wichita, KS. She survives.

Alfred worked as a farmer for much of his life. He served as Protection City Judge and Protection Mayor. He was instrumental in the formation of the Protection Valley Manor, where he previously served as administrator and as a board member. He was a member of Protection Jaycees and Protection Lion's Club.

He is survived by his wife: Nancy Zimmerman; four children: Dallas (Val), Travis, Heather Hice (Jareb) and A.J. (Amanda); six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother: Mike Zimmerman (Louise); one sister: JoAnn Day; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: James Zimmerman and Earl "Doc" Zimmerman; and four sisters: Elsie Gunden, Lois Lauffer, Norma Conrad, and Ruby Stotts.

Calling times are from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Family Will Be Present From 5-7 p.m.), Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.

Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2023, at Protection First Baptist Church in Protection, KS, with Andrew Evans presiding.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Wilmore Cemetery in Wilmore, KS, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Comanche County Hospital or Arrowhead West.
