Rachel Elizabeth Suthers of Darlington, WI passed away January 13, 2023 at Lafayette County Manor in Darlington. She was born at home on February 23, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Delilah McKillip. She grew up in Willow Springs Township where she attended Sheldon School. She was united in marriage to Gilbert John Suthers on May 9, 1953 at Camp Breckinridge, KY.

Rachel is survived by one son: Terry (Mary Jane) Suthers of Monroe, WI; five grandchildren: Kristi (Jesse) Sook of Mequon, WI, Douglas (Brenda) Suthers of Parkville, MD, Dan (Chrissy) Suthers of Necedah, WI, Lucas (Jamie) Suthers, Andrew (Ruth) Suthers of Monroe,WI, WI; 8 great-grandchildren: Brandon Suthers, Amelia Suthers, Hunter Suthers, Elizabeth Suthers, Harley Suthers, Thomas Suthers of Monroe,WI; Devin(Brittany)Sook and Dylan(Calista) Sook of Fond du Lac; one sister, Sara Flanagan of Darlington, WI and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gilbert Suthers; one son: John Suthers; one daughter-in-law: Melody Suthers; one grandson: Kevin Suthers; one great grandson: Zakk Suthers; two brothers: Donald and Joseph Mckillip and two sisters: Delores Murphy and Elaine Liles.

Rachel worked as a housekeeper for several families in Darlington. During WWII she worked at Burgess Battery. She also worked for Teenie Cafe, Nellie's Cafe and in 1949 her and her brother Joe owned the Bus Depot. Rachel was city clerk-treasurer for the city of Darlington from 1965 to 1985. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington. Rachel was also a proud member of Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Auxiliary for 39 years and a past member of the Red Hat Society and the Shamrock Club. She was Irish Rose with her sister Sara in 1998. She was also a member of the Darlington Bowling Association for a number of years. Rachel and Gib owned a houseboat on the Mississippi River for over 30 years.Rachel loved music, dancing, gambling, cards and fishing. Rachel's loves of her life were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, all of her family and her wonderful friends. She cherished them all,

A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church (1302 Clay Street, Darlington) with Rev. Kate Kieckhafer officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington at a later date. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) and again on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church.
