Joseph was born Sept. 19, 1930 in Willow Springs Township, the son of Joseph and Delilah (Tubbs) McKillip. He graduated from Darlington High School in 1948. Joseph married Maxine Klaas on July 18, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Joseph was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served from 1951-1953. He was employed by Crum & Forster for many years and retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Company after 28 years of service.
He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and also a member of the VFW and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Joseph is survived by his wife; two daughters: Kathryn (Bruce) Buckingham, Port Clinton, Ohio; Barbara (Harold) Miller, Monroe; one son, Michael (Julie Garrison), West Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren: Eric (Emily) Buckingham, Centerville, Ohio; Brittany Miller; twins Jeremy and Chelsea Miller, all of Monroe; Jordan and Collin McKillip, West Des Moines, Iowa; a brother, Donald, Shullsburg; three sisters: Mary Murphy, Monroe; Rachel Suthers and Sara Lange Flanagan, both of Darlington; one great-grandchild, Ella Buckingham, Kettering Ohio; a host of nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother; sister, Anna; brothers-in-law; and sister-in-law.
Funeral Mass was held Feb. 12 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Freeport, Ill. Monsignor P. William McDonnell officiated. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
