A.J. Smith, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, surrounded by his family at his home in Azle, where he had lived since 1954.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Biggers Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Harley Martin officiating. Burial: Azleland Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Biggers Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Asa Paschall Jr., Kirk, Bryan and Eric Smith and Robbie DeRosier, and great-grandson, Keith Jones.
A.J. was born June 24, 1928, to James Andrew Smith and Girty Lee Satterfield in Holiday. He was the loving husband of Dorothy Lee Gober for 57 years.
A.J. loved playing his harmonica for everyone's enjoyment, especially his own. He was introduced to the Brazos River at a young age by his father, who was a commercial fisherman. A.J. was well-known for his love of fishing and the outdoors, spending every opportunity he could at the Brazos, as well as traveling to many states, camping and fishing. Because of his love for people, he made many friends in the community and throughout the country and had a large church family. He was an active member of Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God Church in Blue Mound.
He was predeceased his parents; two brothers, Cecil and David Smith of Fort Worth; and one sister, Lily Bailey of Big Sandy.
Survivors: Wife, Dorothy Gober Smith of Azle; daughter, Judy Paschall and husband, Asa, of Roswell, N.M.; sons, Lonnie Smith and wife, Cheryl, of Willow Park, Steve Smith of Springtown and Tim Smith and wife, Teresa, of Azle; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Tommy Smith and Raymond Smith of Fort Worth, Jessie Smith and Dan Smith of Mineral Wells; sisters, Lucille Gober of Mineral Wells, Doris Elliott of Boyd, Marybelle Greiss and Naomi Marx of Sterling, Colo.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
